An evening with Poep Sa Frank Jude Boccio and Psychoanalyst Jeffrey Rubin Thursday evening, March 1st, 2012 There has been a flowering in the West of Eastern traditions that cultivate attention, compassion and insight. And yet, for all the discipline people apply to these practices, many turn to psychotherapy to help with areas that meditation or yoga doesn’t seem to reach. Correspondingly, psychoanalysis, since its inception has been concerned with states of consciousness and the oundations of the self, with a growing interest in very early states of mind, along with states of mind having to do with attending and empathy. Still, as many therapists have discovered, it is helpful to augment cognitive understanding and psychotherapy with Zen, Yoga or other Eastern practices having to with a different kind of attending. There are important differences between East and West in regards to how we understand ourselves, and these differences are important to grapple with for both the Yoga/Zen practitioner and the psychotherapist. Jeffrey Rubin, PhD and Poep Sa Frank Jude Boccio will each present their views and also engage in a dialog with each other and with the audience. Please join us.
